Street Fire At Holborn Update Sunday 5th April.

We’re continuing to work with emergency responders and utilities to enable businesses to reopen now the Holborn fire has been extinguished.


The following phases of work will begin on Easter Sunday.

Phase 1

East side of Kingsway (Holborn to Aldwych) and West side of Kingsway (Holborn to Great Queen Street)

National Grid will carry out further work to gas pipes in the area on Sunday morning.

Once this complete, Police will contact owners about returning to their premises.

If you are an affected business please call Camden on 020 7974 4444 with your keyholder contact details which we will forward onto the Police to assist with this.

Until that process is complete, there will be restrictions on pedestrians being allowed access until such time as the properties are secured.

Phase 2

West side of Kingsway (Great Queen Street running south to Kemble Street) and Kemble Street Street to Aldwych. These properties will be contacted by the Police once they are ready to proceed.

Phase 3

Work has begun today on Kingsway south running carriage way (the east side). The tunnel will be inspected and once this is assessed to be safe this part of Kingsway will be opened to traffic.

Phase 4

Kingsway north running carriage way (the west side) has substantial damage and may not be available for many days.

Other reported roads closures for pedestrians and vehicles are as follows:

Southampton Row by Holborn station

Kingsway from The Aldwych to High Holborn

Parker Street from Kingsway to Newton Street

Great Queen St from Kingsway to Newton Street

Wild Court

Keeley Street

Kemble St from Kingsway to Wild Street

Portugal St from Kingsway for the first 30 metres

Sardinia Street

Remnant Street

Gate Street
